Affective atmospheres are increasingly studied across disciplines as qualities that pervade spaces and are experienced as part of the environment rather than solely within individuals. While much debate has focused on defining their nature, this workshop emphasizes their interpersonal dimension. Atmospheres both shape and are shaped by social interactions, influencing behavior, expectations, and meaning in shared situations (e.g., tense meetings, festive gatherings, therapeutic settings). They emerge through bodily expression, communication, and affective resonance among individuals, not just physical surroundings. Some atmospheres are deliberately designed to foster specific interactions, while others arise spontaneously in everyday social contexts.
This workshop will explore key questions:

-
How do atmospheres emerge, and how are they shared?
-
In what ways do they shape and are shaped by interpersonal dynamics in everyday and pre-established contexts?
-
How can we study atmospheres methodologically, whether through theory, qualitative inquiry, or quantitative measures?
